You may be able to solve many orthodontic problems on your own temporarily until you schedule a repair appointment with our office. These problems need not cause delay in your treatment.

Loose band or bracket
If the band or bracket is still attached to the wire, leave it in place.  If this is uncomfortable, place wax on the bracket causing irritation.  If it comes out completely, keep the appliance and bring it to your next visit.

Loose wire
Try to place the wire back in place with tweezers. If that is not possible, clip the wire with fingernail clippers behind the last tooth to which it is securely fastened. If you have any discomfort, place wax on the wire causing irritation.

Poking wire
Try to push the problem wire down with a spoon or eraser. If not possible, place wax on the wire causing irritation.

Lost tie wire or elastic tie
Notify us at your next appointment.

Soreness

Loose appliance
If your appliance is loose place wax on the area causing irritation.  If it is loose and causing discomfort please call us at your earliest convenience.

If you think you are unable to handle a problem on your own, please call at your earliest convenience.
